Telegraph | Arts | Why podcasting could turn into a cash cow

From the UK a look at the issues the BBC is facing with an expensive but popular morning radio program. They're eventually going to have to look at the idea of charging for their podcast downloads. If it's that popular, charging seems like a good idea. I mean, if you're getting 413,000+ downloads in a month, that is pretty good distribution. As more and more podcasts float into the mainstream and consciousness of listeners, radio stations will have to make hard choices.

So will listeners. Would you pay a few bucks a month for a copy of your favorite radio program on MP3? If you'd pay for a podcast, what's your limit?

These are questions we have no answers for today, but I can see where they'll pop up in the not-too-distant future.

The headline reads: Tories Embrace Podcasting to Woo British Voters

Politicians are warming up to using podcasting to get out the word about their agendas. This is just as I predicted a couple of short months ago - that podcasting could influence the next presidential race. Okay, so that's a bit of a stretch, but here is a political group in the UK that's using podcasting to editorialize against the powers that be.

I think this is cool. If you had a GREAT podcast and even achieved a viral spreading of its message, it could influence people to get more engaged or adjust their opinion.

Yeah, I know it sounds wacky, but weirder things have happened.

Podcasting: Transforming Middle Schoolers Into ‘Middle Scholars’ : December 2005 : THE Journal

Seventh graders dive into the podcasting pool and get wet. See, this is what I love about the medium of podcasting. Kids learn their subjects better by having to create a podcast around it. Plus, they learn about podcasting and the technical world surrounding it.

I hope more teachers get their kids into podcasting. What a great learning tool!
